The Miracle Bus January 14, 2008 By a satisfied customer.
"Two weeks ago after church we had a dedication for our new school bus.  The story behind the bus is somewhat a miracle in itself.  A little over a year ago it was decided that our Kohala Mission School needed a new school bus - the old one was breaking down and simply wasn't running like it used to.  A seed donation was given and slowly the process of raising funds began.  Church members tried writing to various organizations to see if they could help, but got turned down every time.

Fast forward to the middle of December, with one week of school left before the holidays the bus breaks down and arrangements are made at the last minute for teachers and staff to take students to and from school.  The church is asked to pray, and the next week we learn that our prayers are answered as the last of the money is raised and the bus is ordered.  One of our church members had been researching buses for quite a while and found the perfect one for us - a brand new 2005 bus (which met all Hawaii standards) sitting in a saleslot in California.

However, once the bus is purchased we find out that there is no room on the barge for the bus to arrive in time for the spring semester of school.  Once again our church members drop to their knees and wouldn't you know - they company finds an opening and the bus is set to arrive on Dec 31.

Next, two of our church elders make the drive to Hilo to pick up the bus, but along the way stop at the county offices and find out that taxes and fees will amount to $2000 - the landed cost of the bus which was more than we expected.  They didn't have the shipping documents with them at the time and would have to return later.  Again our church is asked to pray that God will provide the additional money.

When our church elder returned to the county office, a friendly clerk told him that since the bus wasn't brand new (a 2007 model as opposed to 2005) that we wouldn't have to pay the taxes and fees on it.  A call of the DMV confirmed it and he left with our new school bus totally paid for!

Last week the students took their first ride on the bus (Roland surprised them one morning by going along for the ride) and loved it!  It's amazing to see how the Lord works.  During the dedication our elder mentioned how many times he felt like a "doubting Thomas" so everyone got a good laugh when it was pointed out that the bus was "Thomas built"."
