Zero Emission Mode
DesignLine Proprietary Series Hybrid System allows “zero emission mode” operation for up to 25% of the day. During that period, the bus operates solely on battery power with no emissions.
Up to 95% Reduction in Greenhouse Gas Emissions
The DesignLine system utilizes the smallest combustion engine on the market, or “clean burning” turbines, and the body design reduces vehicle weight in approximately 2.25 tons less greenhouse gas a year.
DesignLine’s targeted pollutants include Carbon Dioxide, Nitrous Oxide, Carbon Monoxide and Hydrocarbons (soot) which are not only responsible for global warming, but also cause emphysema, asthma and bronchitis.
Over 100% Improvement in Fuel Economy
DesignLine enjoys 6-10 m.p.g. from its system (depending on configuration and duty cycle). This is over 100% improvement on standard diesels and an over 25% improvement on other hybrid systems. Improved fuel economy translates into a fuel savings of up to 6,000 gallons per year.
Significantly Quieter Operation
The Hybrid emits little more than ambient noise (wheels on the pavement) during zero emissions mode and, during full system operation, is no louder than a common large office setting (approximately 70 dB).
Greater Passenger Comfort
Since there is no transmission needed with an electric motor, there is no “jerking” during braking and acceleration.
Also, passenger compartment noise is reduced to a level where conversations can be held between the front and
rear of the bus at normal voice levels.
Over 40% Reduction in Overall Life Cycle Operating Costs
The DesignLine System is designed for increased reliability and ease of maintenance. In simplest terms, with fewer
moving mechanical parts, there is less chance of component failure.
Coupling the lower fuel costs and lower maintenance costs has proven that an overall 40% reduction in operating costs is attainable.
